Brilliantly narrated by Ray Porter, God’s Junk Drawer takes us on a journey to a place in time and space where people and places appear and then remain forever. Well, everything remains except for young Billy, but no one back on present day Earth believes his tales about a robot servant saving him from a dinosaur. They think he must have endured a terrible tragedy and his young brain made up the stories as a coping mechanism.
For Billy, now years later, getting back to that place and time is all he can think about. But how can you find a spot in the space time continuum?
The concept for this book is unique and intriguing, and the execution of the mystery is faultless. Clines characters react normally to supernatural events, and that reality is needed to ground this fantastical novel.
Ray Porter has a different voice and accent for each character and his emotional and humorous inflections make this story both magical and addictive. This is truly a page turner that I did not want to stop listening to.
If you enjoyed Project Hail Mary, The Martian, or The Bobiverse seres, you will love God’s Junk Drawer. 4.5/5 stars.
